Working together to keep Brighouse safe
Making Brighouse as safe and secure as possible is essential for our town and one of our Business Improvement District priorities for 2024-2029.
We are working with West Yorkshire Police to pass on essential information on how you can play an active role in maintaining the security and well-being of our town centre.
By reporting any incidents of crime or anti-social behaviour promptly, and in the right way, you contribute to that safer environment for everyone.
In an emergency, if a crime is taking place at your business or directly afterwards, always call 999.
For non-emergency situations, please use 101.
The 101 helpline is designed for reporting less urgent crimes or anti-social behaviour that does not require an immediate response.
Examples of non-emergency situations include:
- Theft or burglary (where the suspect is no longer on the premises)
- Vandalism (where the suspect is no longer present)
- Noise complaints (that do not pose an immediate threat)
- Non-urgent incidents of antisocial behaviour

When reporting incidents, remember to retain any available CCTV footage or write down as much information as you can remember while it is still fresh. These details can greatly assist the police in their investigations and contribute to the successful resolution of incidents.
Examples of anti-social Behaviour (ASB) include graffiti, begging, street drinking, and fly tipping.
If you witness any of these or other forms of ASB, please report them promptly. Your vigilance and cooperation will help create a more pleasant environment for everyone.
Remember, reporting every incident, no matter how small, is crucial. Even seemingly minor incidents can provide valuable insights and contribute to accurate crime figures. These figures play a vital role in determining police resources and funding for our town centre.
By reporting incidents promptly, you actively contribute to the allocation of resources where they are most needed, ensuring the safety of our town centre.
Brighouse has a Community Policing team who are there to support our businesses. If you see one of the team out and about in the town centre, feel free to talk to them directly about any issues or concerns you have.
Here at Brighouse BID, we’ll continue to work alongside the West Yorkshire Police to advice you of anything that we’re made aware of that may affect businesses in the town centre and also continue with any information sessions with the Community Policing Team throughout the year.
